The beautiful city

Although Barcelona is the second largest city in this amazing country and although Madrid is the capital, it manages very often to attract more tourists than Madrid does. Why is that? Well, Barcelona is a really fantastic Spanish city and the beloved capital of the famous Catalonia region. It occupies the north eastern corner of Spain, located right by the beautiful Mediterranean Sea whose waters bathe its shores and next to the picturesque Pyrenees Mountains. This means that if you decide to spend a holiday there, you have the chance to enjoy the beauties of a modern and cosmopolite city, as well as the benefits that come together with the sea and the mountain. 1.5 million people live in probably the most famous city in the country and I assure you that you will find them all extremely welcoming and open minded. All these are just a few of the reasons why you should visit Barcelona during one of your holidays, so don’t hesitate! Go for it!

Visiting Barcelona

The first thing that you should know when deciding to visit Barcelona is that it is a quite polemic city, as it is the capital of the famous, independent region in Spain: Catalonia. You’ll feel there like in a completely different country, as they even have their own language, Catalan, which is used as much as Spanish in administration. However, people speak Catalan, so the original point is there. Barcelona is a very carefully planned city, with streets that go in long, straight lines and a very organized array of squares. La Rambla is the famous avenue that crosses through the beautiful centre of the city; it starts in the Cataluña Square and leads you towards the Old Port area, which offers you spectacular views of the Mediterranean Sea.

If you have enough time, try to discover and to explore the city by foot, because you will be impressed by the astonishing architectural works that will appear in front of your eyes at every street corner, most of them belonging to the great Antoni Gaudi. For a sports type of person, the Camp Nou stadium where the best football team of the world plays its games represents a very important attraction. Barcelona became so famous due to the fact that it hosted the 1992 Olympic Games, but you have to visit it in order to discover that it is a city of an unequaled beauty!
