Spain’s capital city

Madrid became the capital city of Spain in 1562 and tourists can visit it in the center of the Iberian Peninsula. The central location combined with the high altitude contribute to the climate of the city, characterized by warm dry summers perfect for a holiday and cool winters. The city is a spectacular one for every tourist, with great monuments to visit, a spectacular medieval center that dates back to the Habsburg Empire and the famous Prado Museum. However, Madrid stands out with the fact that it is not just a simple cultural destination, but also a lively metropolis with numerous bars, pubs, restaurants, cafes and nightclubs where you can have a lot of fun with your friends. This is the reason why tourists shouldn’t be surprised if they get stuck in traffic jams in the early morning, with a whole bunch of people who don’t go to work!

Sightseeing in Madrid

Sightseeing is one of the most important activities in Madrid, which should be visited following its periods. For example, there is a spectacular Madrid dating back to the Habsburg Era, with monuments like Puerta Del Sol, Descalzas Reales, the Encarnacion Monastery, the Uceda Palace and the popular Plaza de la Villa. The Madrid built under the Bourbons is absolutely fantastic; this is the era when the Royal Palace was built, the era when the Academy of Arts was born and the one when the Buenavista Palace saw the daylight. In the 19th century, Madrid was enriched with Museo Del Prado, the outstanding Parque Del Retiro, the Velasquez Palace and the Crystal Palace. Last but not least, the 20th century brought the Open Air Museum of Sculpture, the picturesque Descubrimiento Gardens, the Reina Sofia Art Center and the beautiful Parque Del Oeste. You have to include all these monuments on your sightseeing list, as they are the ones that tell the story of Madrid’s past.

Enjoying the best of Madrid

While in Madrid, you can’t distinguish which are the local dishes and which are the ones found in the entire country, but I assure you that there are a few recipes that will nourish all your senses. You have to try the garlic soup and the aromatic wines: you will love them! The fiestas are spectacular, with colored costumes, fireworks, traditional music and dancing and energetic people who just want to have fun. Participate in one of them and you will get lifetime memories!
